Hudson Hawk 1991
IMDb Movie
BW
comedy 5/5 5/5
This movie's greatest fault is the year it was made. Among half a dozen releases of caper comedies with music it would have passed for average. As nobody made those in 1991, all its "warts" are plainly visible. The fluffy subject receives a somewhat heavy treatment, but in all the movie has its charm. A nice, undemanding, innocuous flick to watch when you have the flu, and a cult item for the true BW fan.

In Country 1989
IMDb Movie
BW
drama 7/10 10/10
A coming-of-age movie in more than one way. As 17-year-old Samantha grows up learning to look beyond the cliches of eternal love and hero-worship, her uncle Emmet grows up learning to live with his traumatic memories of combat in Vietnam and the experience he can't share with ordinary people. - One of BW's great dramatic performances.

Jackal, The 1997
IMDb Movie
BW
action 5/10 7/10
Another one of those standard-issue thrillers with stuff getting blown up and people dying in messy ways - let's hope the boys had fun making it. One who does seem to have had fun is BW; a couple of his disguises had even this fan fooled. Watch this movie to see a master craftsman play with the tools of his trade. The gay bar scene is a jewel.

Kid, The 2000
IMDb Movie
BW
comedy 6/10 7/10
"How would your eight-year-old self rate your life?" Actually a very useful question for anyone reviewing his/her adult existence. A charming movie with an unexpectedly human message for a Disney Inc product. Extremely soppy ending seems to be a deplorable necessity.

Last Boy Scout, The 1991
IMDb Movie
BW
action 6/10 7/10
A well-made present-day representative of the private eye genre. By now one would expect the drunken cynical private eye to have become just one big cardboard cliché - when along comes BW and makes him come alive again. As for the film's alleged women-hating attitude: can only white males be crooks???

Last Man Standing 1996
IMDb Movie
BW
action 6/10 7/10
The story of a "noir" hero a long way from home. Above all, this film has atmosphere: you can feel the heat and smell the dust in the air. Some spectacular shootouts, precursors of "The Matrix". And when BW's character gets beaten up, it makes "Die Hard" feel like "Swan Lake".
A warning if you don't really like BW's voice: the movie has a voiceover.

Mercury Rising 1998
IMDb Movie
BW
action 4/10 6/10
A rather average thriller based on some blatant factual nonsense. Worth seeing for the acting: Miko Hughes as a believable, un-cutsey autistic nine-year-old, and BW's well known but ever amazing knack at working with children.
---

Moonlighting 1985
IMDb Movie
BW
comedy 1/10 2/10

Note: this review refers to the pilot episode available on DVD,
not to the entire series.

Some women swoon at the mention of David Addison, BW's "Moonlighting" character - isn't the variety of taste amazing? The guy has as much male chauvinism in him as BW playing him has ham: amply sufficient for a prize hog. The gender stereotypes providing the dramatic idea and most of the "humor" are of the kind that must have felt stale around 1950.
Still, the DVD is a must-have for any serious BW fan. As a bonus feature it contains the screen test that landed BW the job, even worse than his performance in the pilot episode. The development of his acting ability between 1985 and 1988/89 (Die Hard 1, In Country) is more than impressive.

Mortal Thoughts 1991
IMDb Movie
BW
drama 6/10 8/10
This movie contains one of BW's rare bad-guy portrayals, a creepily believable "would someone please murder this jerk" character. A straight, fairly realistic suspense story, where BW once again proves himself as a real actor and a team player, and Demi Moore shows a greater dramatic talent than she usually gets credit for.
