Guilty of possibly
the greatest sin in an action flick: it's boring (pun not intended,
the movie doesn't rate one). A fun premise and a promising set
of characters get blown to Limbo in a two-hour monotony of explosions
and hysterics. The pompous music and flag-waving match Soviet
1950s productions, and the view of women went obsolete around
1940. |

A charming Bonnie
& Clyde & Clyde yarn, with quirky characters, ending
with a twist and a smile. If your idea of a fun caper movie
relies on story, dialogue and acting, rather than body count
and pyrotechnics, check this out. |

A movie largely
for the BW completist. The subject matter is less than fascinating
- but that may be because I'm not American (I couldn't read
the book either). The "waking up with a hangover"
scene and a couple of others stay with you. |

Most fans of the
book hate the film. In itself, it is nothing for those who expect
a "Bruce Willis movie", but an enjoyable experience
for friends of the absurd and surreal. Another proof of BW's
fine dramatic ability. |

Granted, as an erotic
thriller, this movie is nothing to write home about. But forget
the sales pitch and watch it with an open mind, why not as a
fairytale, complete with magic castles, evil sorcerers and an
enchanted princess. It wasn't meant that way? So what? |

Fun idea competently
handled, matched by some playful use of then-new visual effects
technology. And yet another proof of BW being a craftsman actor
rather than just a movie star. |

"Die Hard"
pretty much founded its own genre, and the original beats all
the copies hands down. Intelligent script, well-developed characters,
special effects that are spectacular without stealing the entire
movie... and some of the best acting in BW's entire career. |

"Bigger, badder,
louder" - and unfortunately also dumber than the original.
The self-imposed restrictions that made DH1 interesting are
either gone or turned into gimmicks. Various scenes might have
been picked up from the cutting-room floor of the latest James
Bond, and few characters besides John McClane stand out from
the cardboard. |

A failed attempt
at renewal of the "Die Hard" concept. The rudimentary
storyline is sprawling and disjointed, a mere pretext for a
series of standard-issue special effects. My sourpuss local
movie critic says: "A part that BW could play in his sleep
- which is precisely what he seems to be doing." For once
I agree. |

If you're looking
for "serious" sci-fi action, you'll hate this affectionate
fun-poke at every cliché in the business. Not even the
somewhat lame ending can seriously harm this exceptionally well-crafted,
visually stunning, brilliantly acted kick-ass spaceship roller-coaster
ride.
